Минский моторный завод (ММЗ) занимается изготовлением различных двигателей внутреннего сгорания для автобусов, а также промышленной, сельскохозяйственной техники. 6-цилиндровый дизель Д-260 от ММЗ был выпущен в 1995 году и оснащался он рядным чугунным блоком цилиндров с чугунными мокрыми гильзами и с масляными форсунками для охлаждения поршней. В этот блок инженеры поместили стальной коленвал с ходом поршня 125 мм (диаметр коренных шеек 85.25 мм, шатунных шеек 73 мм), стальные шатуны и алюминиевые поршни диаметром 110 мм. Все это позволяет получить рабочий объем 7.12 литра.
Накрывает блок цилиндров чугунная головка с 12-ю клапанами и со вставными седлами клапанов. Распредвала в ГБЦ нет — он стоит в блоке и посредством толкателей, штанг и коромысел, действует на клапаны. Размер впускных клапанов 48 мм, выпускных 42 мм, толщина стержня 11 мм. Регулировка клапанов Д-260 требуется по необходимости, но проверять зазоры нужно после каждых 500 часов работы. Зазоры клапанов должны быть следующими: впускные — 0.25 мм, выпускные — 0.45 мм. Порядок регулировки клапанов такой же, как и последовательность работы ДВС — 1-5-3-6-2-4. Давление масла — 2.8-4.5 кгс/см2.
Дизель Д-260 оснащается топливным насосом ЯЗДА 363 и турбокомпрессором ТКР 7. С 1998 года началось производство версии под стандарт Евро-1, а в 2001 году дизель Д-260 довели до Евро-2. Далее последовали Евро-3 моторы, которые встали на конвейер в 2005 году и отличались наличием впрыска Common rail с топливным насосом Bosch СРN2.2 и ЭБУ Bosch EDC7UC31.

Область применения дизелей — места с неограниченным воздухообменом. Дизели рассчитаны на эксплуатацию при температуре окружающего воздуха от плюс 40 С до минус 45 С. Дизель Д-260.1 и его модификации используются в качестве силового агрегата на энергонасыщенных колесных тракторах (Д-260.1 и Д-260.2), гусеничных тракторах (Д-260.14), кормоуборочных комбайнах (Д-260.4), энергонасыщенных энергетических средствах УЭС-250 (Д-260.7) и других машинах различного назначения. Конструкция дизелей рассчитана на длительную работу без капитального ремонта при условии соблюдения правил эксплуатации, хранения и своевременного технического обслуживания.
В состав силового агрегата данной модели входит большое количество рабочих деталей, узлов и систем. Основные позиции:
- блок цилиндров;
- головки блока ГБЦ 2 штуки;
- кривошипно-шатунный механизм;
- механизм газораспределения;
- топливная система;
- турбокомпрессор;
- система охлаждения;
- система смазочная.
